Disney: Ya got me this one time

Last summer we were trying to figure out a great place to take our daughter for her 7th birthday.

We considered Europe, using Paris as a base to work from. But the airfares were retarded by a 90% tax.

Since she's in a "princess phase", Disney became a pretty good option. And we have a friend who works in the travel department for the mouse. So we went all in, got a room at what is supposed to be one of their upper end, on property resorts, the mac daddy meal plan and park tickets.

We're on day 4 of a 5 day stint here at Disney, and I have have to ask: WTH?

A $22 hot dog? F'ing really??? Yes, we got the meal plan, but you do get an itemized break down of the bill of what your meal would have cost. $22 for a f'ing hot dog???? And some fruit? I had a meatball entre at the Norwegian restaraunt at Epcot, and it was $40, for an entree that was no bigger than a small appetizer.

We ate at the Crystal Palace on Main Street Saturday night, and at the restaraunt inside the castle last night. $150 meals for paltry portion sizes... Damn...

And then the "attractions". Even my 7 year old is underwhelmed. For the most part, we wait in line for a "ride" that you get in, sit down, and float by some animatronics at low speed. My daughter is sitting their and complaining that they're robots.

The only time she giggle uncontrollably was at the "Soarin" attraction at Epcot. It's one of those "movies" that puts you in an environment that feels like you're flying.

I have to say, I do not get the draw to Disney.

We would have only spent slightly more going to Europe.
Incididentally, I've already started planning that with my mother in law ( I might have the coolest mother in law ever ). The only stipulation that she and my wife (and daughter) have is that we still use Paris as the hub of our travels. I wanted to base out of Munich or Berlin, and go to Scotland, Ireland, and London. But I've been over ruled...

I digress. So we're off to "Downtown Disney" and then to the Animal Kingdom this afternoon. I REALLY hope Animal Kingdom doesn't suck.

Paris as a hub?
sounds romantic, exciting etc but all the traffic, hectic an billion ways to go the wrong way would kill it for me

have a good time today!!

I heard the harry potter attraction was pretty good. But then again I was at Epcot Center when I was 13. I'm 38 now and don't feel a need to go back any time soon. LOL

CAPTKEN28 is an unknown quantity at this point
It sounds like you and your family would love universal orlando..Disney is for ages 2-6 years old. Universal takes over after that..better rides, food, resorts, and value.

JMHO

1) Don't eat in the park.

2) Use Fastpass for rides. If you sit through the Disney Vacation Club presentation, you'll probably get a "special" fastpass.

3) If you know anyone who works for the park, or for the mouse in general, an employee card will open a lot of doors. Just sayin'.

Sorry to hear. For some reason my wife wants to take our kids to DisneyWorld. I don't want to

Is this the truth about Universal for older and DismeyWorld for younger?
