South America (Ecuador) for New Years

TS,

Just booked my trip for New Years Eve to Ecuador!!! My girlfriend is from there and her entire family still lives there so here we go. We will be down there for 11 nights and have lots of cool little day trips planned along with one overnight trip to a cool Eco-Resort deep in the Rain Forrest. Really pumped!!

Anyone ever been? Any pictures or stories to share? I dont really 'need' any advice i guess since she is from there and i will be with tons of locals the entire time - just more intersted in if anyone else had been and your thoughts.

100% will be taking tons of pictures while i am there and posting them here when i return.

Cheers!!!

One of my friends was down there in the spring, I'll ask him if he has any tips.

Don't rent a cheap seat/fiat though, he rented one or the other and apparently something "exploded" and was actually on fire, I thought he was messing with me when he called from the side of the road.

That is funny. We arent renting a car as my girl's family has some we can use.

I am really getting pumped for this trip now...

Ecuador is a great place - well done and hope you have fun. We spent 2 weeks there - went to quito, galapagos, el coca. didnt get to stay in an eco lodge (we tried to booked but didnt have time and vacancy). enjoy!

I traveled to Ecuador once, and had a great time. Treat yourself like a king, because everything is SO cheap. San Telmo is a great place to get a steak. Be sure not to walk down any empty streets alone after dark. Ecuador is a pretty dangerous place right now.

UPDATE: posting from Ecuador now. This place is awesome! Staying with my girls parents n Tumbaco (suburb of Quito) for another week or so and so far having a blast. New years eve in downtown Quito with about 100 ecuadorians and myself was an experience I won't soon forget. Today we took a nice long run (about 10km) on some sick mountain trails into the town of Cumbaya. Insane. Now off to dinner at a friends house - tomorrow is the jungle for a 2 day mini vacation at an Eco-Resort here. Very excited for that.

I hope you all had awesome new years and I look forward to sharing my pictures with you when I return. Cheers!
