Diners, Drive-ins and Dives
I love this show. I live in the Bay Area and all the places they feature seem to be everywhere but the SF Bay Area. Anyone know of a place that would compare to some of the places seen on that show.
I was in Phoenix during the NCAA tourament in March and went to one of the places featured on the show:
Matt's Big Breakfast
801 N. 1st Street
Phoenix, AZ 85004
Tel: (602) 254-1074
Website: :::matt's BIG breakfast:::
It was fantantic. Met Matt. Great guy, down to earth. Food is all made with the best of the best ingredients. He told me the crew from the show were there 4 days to shoot the spot. Tiny place and you will wait but its worth it. Just don't go there in the summer you may die of heat stroke waiting.
Anyways, anything in the SF Bay would be a great find. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

One of my favorite shows!
I can't watch it without getting uncontrollably hungy. I usually go to the store immediately and come back and try to make similar dishes at my place.
I've only been to one of the featured restaurants -- Charlie Parker's in Springfield, IL

they featured a place towards wine country i think. it was a upscale hamburger stand that featured a seared ahi sandwich. let me see if i can track it down.

some Bay Area places - not really "diners" or "dives" but good casual places that are a nice stop during a day of driving some of the back country roads.
Wild Flour Bakery (Freestone, CA) - 20 minutes from bodega bay, some of the best bread in the Bay Area, and a sticky bun (the size of your head) to die for.
Cachagua Store (20 miles from Carmel) - never been but the guy has a blog and he's been to some impressive restaurants. claims to just be a local pub trying to cook good food.
Jim Town Store (near Healdsburg) - it's a store that sells antiques but their sandwiches are pretty good - local, seasonal ingredients. the chocolate pudding in the fridge is very very good.
Cowgirl Creamery (Pt Reyes) - a nice drive up and they have various picnic items.

Country Way in Fremont, CA. It's the closest thing to an authentic diner/dive I've found in the Bay Area. Friendly service, cheap, and huge servings. I usually go here for breakfast food; their sourdough French toast is addicting.

I agree...everytime I watch the show I get real hungry. I want to get on a plane and go to the places the next day. It's an awesome show. Real food for real people and all the places seem to be so down to earth. Last night he had a show on just BBQ. I would be dead if I lived in Memphis with all the barbeque in that town.
