Actually Phuket is not very much like Krabi. Phuket does not have cliffs quite like this and is very busy with massive numbers of hotels and tourists.
Also, my favorite hotel is the Peninsula. Wonderful place right on the river.

Renting a good BMW motorcycle and driving a tour thru the northern mountains is wonderful. Active motorcycle license is needed.

What would you like to do? Soi Cowboy is a must see but if you're going with a wife/gf they may not be too happy about it. 
I live in Bangkok when I'm not in Afghanistan. If you have any specific questions let me know
