UPDATE spring / summer 2014 - 3

This should not come as a big surprise to anybody....

One in three is a millionaire in Monaco

With a population of just 36,371 inhabitants, Monaco is the second smallest country in the world. So perhaps it's not that surprising that a new study has revealed that the Principality tops the poll when it comes to having the densest concentration of millionaires.

The consulting firm WealthInsight, in association with Spear's, which is a magazine that caters to the "ultra high net worth community", performed an analysis on the financial status of the world's elite and according to their results, released on Tuesday 22nd July, 29.21% of Monaco's population have a bank account containing a sum of seven figures or more. A primary residence was not included in the calculations.

While the report made headlines across the globe this week, the results didn't come as a major surprise to the analysts or perhaps to those who live in the Principality or adjoining French Riviera.

"It's unsurprising to see that Monaco is the most likely place where you will bump into a millionaire," said WealthInsight analyst Oliver Williams. "The Principalities' low tax and Mediterranean waterfront is the ideal habitat for wealthy individuals."

Monaco is followed by Zurich, of which 27.34% of the population are millionaires, and then Geneva, with 17.92%.

"Favourable tax and outstanding location are important criteria for attracting clusters of millionaires, but so too is ready access to wealth managers and private banks," added Williams.

In early July, the World Bank released statistics showing that the Monegasque earn more per capita than any other people in the world. It is also one of the few places in the world that does not charge income tax.

Top 20 global cities by millionaire density

1) Monaco - 29.21%

2) Zurich - 27.34%

3) Geneva - 17.92%

4) New York - 4.63%

5) Frankfurt - 3.88%

6) London - 3.39%

7) Oslo - 2.90%

8) Singapore - 2.80%

9) Amsterdam - 2.63%

10) Florence - 2.59%

The French Rivera. The truth.

Here in this thread you have all seen the nice automotive exotics & super yachts in Monaco, pop stars shopping in Nice, the beautiful supermodels - female movie stars at the Film Festival in Cannes and the azure blue water at the surrounding beaches of St.-Tropez. But under the surface, everything is quite different from what it appears to be....

Jobb well done.......BUT so much more work to do...

Italian mob roundup in the Côte d’Azur

In less than 24 hours, police services in Nice arrested multiple Italian mobsters from two of the biggest crime syndicates of southern Italy. Antonio Lo Russo, head of the Camorra syndicate and Vito Laterza, a member of the ‘Ndrangheta, both had European arrest warrants issued for them.

The French gendarmerie (military police), in coordination with IPOL and an Italian anti-mafia unit and their own military police, arrested Antonio Lo Russo, one of Italy’s 100 most wanted criminals, in a café on the popular rue de France in the evening.

The 33-year-old mobster is considered to be the head of the Camorra crime syndicate since his father, Salvatore Lo Russo, was incarcerated in 2007. Antonio Lo Russo had been on the run since he was convicted for mafia-type activities in 2010 and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

In a press conference on Wednesday, gendarmerie Colonel Sylvain Noyau said the arrest “took place calmly and safely thanks to the element of surprise.”

Antonio Lo Russo was arrested alongside his 23-year-old cousin Carlo Lo Russo, also wanted in Italy for attempted murder, and a third Italian national who will be heard as a witness.

On Wednesday at around noon, less than a day following the Lo Russo arrest, Nice’s anti-gang police (BRI) apprehended Vito Laterza in the streets of Menton. He is a member of the ‘Ndrangheta crime syndicate based in Calabria – the ‘toe’ of the Italian peninsula. 59-year-old Laterza, a convicted drug trafficker, had evaded capture by the German authorities who issued a European arrest warrant for him in February 2014 for drug trafficking between Germany and the Netherlands.

Both Antonio Lo Russo and Vito Laterza were transferred to the court of appeals in Aix en Provence, and are expected to be extradited.

They have just lost the control.....

More physical attacks: new crime stats

Key categories like burglary and assault remain high, despite the Prime Minister’s promise to “reverse the trend”.

According to figures released by government agency ONDRP (Observatoire national de la délinquance et des réponses pénales), the data shows that certain violent crimes have increased quite significantly. Reports of violent assault on adults were up 15.8%, as well as attacks on human dignity (up 53%), and threats of violence (up 38%).

There is also a worrying upward trend for burglary on both primary and secondary residences, 14% and 17% respectively, made all the more significant due to pledges by the Prime Minister, Manuel Valls, to reduce these numbers following high incidences in 2013.

Small vehicle theft is still a significant issue with almost 10 scooters or motorcycles stolen every day in the Alpes Maritimes region.

Stabbing in Nice

A brawl on Nice's Promenade des Anglais on Saturday night led to the death of a 30-year-old man and left another seriously injured.

At around 1am on Sunday morning, emergency services were called to the scene at the end of Bouvelard Gambetta. One man was reportedly already dead when they arrived, while another victim, aged 27 years, was taken to hospital in a serious condition with multiple stab wounds.

Witness statements led to the arrests of three suspects half an hour later a short distance away on rue de France.

Meanwhile, police are trying to determine the identity of a body found on the A8 highway near Muy on Friday afternoon. A medical examination was unable to determine the cause of death. Nice Matin reports that the body could be that of Margueritte Da cruz Mendez, a Portugese-born resident of Muy, who disappeared on Monday 28th July.

The 60-year-old is said to have left her home at around 1pm without her mobile phone. She did not return, leading to an appeal for information by police.

Uninsured driver causes fatal crash

A hitchhiker was killed and another passenger left paralysed after a driver crashed into a wall near Nice on the weekend. The 33-year-old was uninsured and reportedly fled the scene after the accident. He is likely to face manslaughter charges.

At around 3am on Saturday morning, the 33-year-old gardener was driving from Beaulieu sur Mer, where he picked up two hitchhikers, to Nice where they lived. On the way, he stopped to pick up a friend in Villefranche sur Mer.

The uninsured driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle, swerving and ramming into a solid stone wall outside a villa at 45 Boulevard Maeterlinck, Cap de Nice. The speed limit on the stretch of road is 50km/h.

One of the hitchhikers, a 34-year-old man, was killed instantly. The victim is believed to have been from the African Union of Comoros and was working as a cook in Beaulieu sur Mer. The other hitchhiker escaped with minor injuries.

The friend of the driver is now left quadriplegic (paralysed in both the arms and legs) and remains in hospital in a serious condition.

The driver of the car was arrested by police in his home five hours after the incident. According to reports, the prosecutor plans to lay a charge of manslaughter.

Early investigations suggest that the cause of the accident was not due to mechanical problems, but loss of control on the driver’s part.

UPDATE spring / summer 2014 - 6

They are both a nice couple and nice people.....

Brad and Angelina wed

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie married on Saturday after nine years together, it was revealed not many days ago.

The couple said their vows at their house in Correns, in the Var, on Saturday 23rd August, according to People.

They managed to keep their low key celebration a secret, with only close friends and family ( just 20 friends and family members + security)..... attending.

The ceremony was held in a small chapel at Château Miraval, the rural wine-growing estate where they first moved to in 2008.

The wedding – including exclusive photos of the ceremony, Jolie's unique dress (decorated with her children's artwork!) and the entire family's celebration.

Each child had a key role to play: Eldest sons Maddox, 13, and Pax, 10, walked their mom down the aisle; flower girls Zahara, 9, and Vivienne, 6, tossed petals gathered from the garden; and Shiloh, 8, and Knox, 6, served as ring bearers. The kids also helped write their parents' vows. And Pax baked the cake!

"It was important to us that the day was relaxed and full of laughter," Pitt, 50, and Jolie, 39, tell. "It was such a special day to share with our children and a very happy time for our family."

Even Jolie's dress was an expression of her kids' creativity: Luigi Massi, the master tailor at Atelier Versace, sewed dozens of designs from her children's drawings into the dress and veil.

"Luigi is like family to me and I couldn't imagine anyone else making this dress," says Jolie. "He knows and cares for the children and it was great fun putting it together."

Pitt wore a suit from his closet – with a tie borrowed from one of his sons because Pitt forgot to pack his. Zahara's dress was designed by family friend Adama Kebe. Maddox, Pax, Shiloh, and Knox wore black suits (Shiloh's included shorts and a top hat), and Vivienne wore a white dress from her closet. Jeweler Robert Procop, who designed Jolie's engagement ring, created the couple's wedding bands.

The Hollywood pair became engaged two years ago in 2012, causing much speculation as to when they would tie the knot.

Brad, 50, and Angelina, 39, have been together since 2005 when they met during filming for Mr and Mrs Smith and have six children: Maddox, 13, Pax, 11, Zahara, 9, Shiloh, 8, and 6-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

Stay away........ both tourists from other places in France and tourists from abroad are doing that.

They blame the weather... ha ha. The truth is people from abroad stay away because they are unfriendly, dirty and arrogant...

Hotels in Nice among most unhygienic in France?

An online survey, based on online reviews of internet users, has rendered Nice as one of the French cities with the most unhygienic hotels.

Conducted by Book Cheap Hotels | Compare Hotel Deals and Hotel Reviews, a website which allows users to check the best prices and book a holiday, the survey places Nice well below the national average in terms of the cleanliness of hotels.

The survey analysed 20,000 customer reviews for hotels in 10 of the largest cities in France. Publishing two separate lists – one detailing the five rating highest with regards to cleanliness and the other, the lowest – placed Nice at the top of the latter.

Receiving a score of 7.37 out of 10 – with the national average falling at 7.8 – Nice did not fare well in the survey. It was followed by Montpellier, with 7.52, Paris with 7.63, Lille with 7.67, and Lyon with 7.81.

At the other end of the spectrum, with the cleanest accommodation in France, was Strasbourg, with 8.28, followed by Nantes, Toulouse, Marseilles and Bordeaux.

While it still fell well below the international winner – Switzerland, with 8.46....

Côte d’Azur experiences decline in tourism this summer

So far this summer, the tourism industry on the Côte d’Azur has experienced a general decline in activity from tourists, leaving experts holding out hope for September to break the trend.

Largely as a result of the weather, with 17 days of unpleasant weather throughout July and August so far......... local businesses have suffered as a result of a drop in the numbers of tourists to the area. This year it seems as though many of the usual visitors to the area have been deterred by the inconsistent weather, opting to go elsewhere to soak up the sunshine instead. ( AND MORE FRIENDLY COMPANY)

And, as reported by Nice Matin, tourists that do come to the area are allegedly staying for fewer days, and spending less money during their stay. Economising measures such as these are becoming more and more prevalent amongst visitors to the French Riviera, and involve small sacrifices and cutbacks with regards to holiday luxuries - sharing meals, and buying drinks in supermarkets rather than splashing out in bars for example – in order to save some pennies.

It is a combination of these two factors, then, that mean that visitors to the Côte d’Azur this summer have spent a fewer number of days, on average, in the region. While over recent years this number has been six, according to Nice Matin, the summer has caused this figure to drop.

However, while experts are hoping that September will provide much-needed relief to the situation, they are doubtful whether there will be an influx of tourists big enough to make up for the rest of the summer.

Cannes
The Arabs

They are.... to put it in a nice way NOT welcome anymore.... Nasty behavior... Just wait for all the comments from the locals....

* The Arab supercar tour continues to Cannes: Days after the streets of Knightsbridge are jammed with flashy vehicles, Middle Eastern playboys take their expensive toys to the French Riviera

* Huge number of foreign-owned sports cars and 4x4s have descended on glamorous French city of Cannes

* Rich families from Dubai and Kuwait have cars delivered to hotels in the Cannes area where they spend holidays

* Vehicles are tailor made, special versions of famous models from car makers like Ferrari, Lamborghini and Bentley

* It is thought Arabs come to the capital from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and UAE to escape the baking hot summer months

* Cars spotted include a six-wheeled Mercedes AMG, a gold Range Rover and several brightly-coloured Rolls Royces

* Local residents are worried that the cars owners don't respect parking rules and could drive dangerously

"They are the glamorous playthings of multi-millionaires usually seen parading along the seafront of Dubai or locked up in vast garages in Riyadh.

But dozens of stunning supercars owned by mega-rich Arabs have now descended on the glamorous city of Cannes on the south coast of France - days after many were seen jamming the streets of Knightsbridge in London.

Wealthy playboys from Dubai and Kuwait have had their expensive toys delivered to the French Riviera where many spend their holidays in the summer months.

The vehicles are tailor made special versions of famous models from car makers like Ferarri, Lamborghini and Bentley - and are certainly turning heads in the resort.

The owners seem trusting enough to leave their luxury vehicles parked up on the side of the road while tourists walk past in amazement.

The vehicles include a McLaren, a number of Lamborghinis and Ferraris of differing colours, parked up alongside luxury hotels and restaurants in the French Riviera destination.

The pictures come days after similar cars were reported on the streets of Knightsbridge in London as rich Qataris, Saudis, Emiratis and Kuwaitis move to Britain to escape the Middle East's baking mid-summer months.

But the growing number of sports cars around the wealthy Knightsbridge district is causing local residents to worry about breaches of parking rules and potential dangerous driving.

The most outrageous car to make the trip over this time around is the six-wheeled Mercedes G63 AMG, an enormous £370,000 off-roader. A 220mph Pagani Huayra, worth more than £1 million, has also attracted attention from tourists and passersby.

There is also a gold Range Rover, various Rolls-Royces, Lamborghinis and Ferraris, numerous Bugatti Veyrons and a 1970s Datsun.

The rich Arabs stay in the best hotels, but they also cause problems with their unique supercars."

The Arabs

As I said, the Arabs are not welcome anymore..... see for yourself....

DMdailynewsreader: I go early to Cannes and the rest of the French Riviera in order to avoid these idiots who completely spoil a great place. Anywhere they go they ruin it for everyone else. They are so ugly and disgusting, hence the reason why they feel they have to spoil otherwise beatiful sports cars in order to match their ugliness. South of France is absoultely horrible when these people are in town and any decent person will tell you that. I dont even need to mention the hypocracy that exists among them especially the Saudis. most hypocritical people in the world.. trust me i lived there and saw it.

Tom Ford intl: I went during Ramadan to avoid them all.

OLIVIER: Your life must be quite sad to bring your car with you from another country to show off to Westerners ! If it wasn't funny it would be pathetic :-)

Nathanalien: It was sort of interesting the first time, but it's just dull and annoying now.

Tara: The funny this is, when they are all grouped together like that they don't look anything special. Cars like that only stand out when they are surrounded by normal cars.

princesse noire: Those cars probably stink inside, given the fact that these folks are known for their bad personal hygiene.

JimB: Garlic and Axe body spray

Thetruth: Money, Yes. Class, NO.

Steve: Buckets of money, but not a single drop of class.

MIKE: LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME

Tom Skerritt: A shame their owners are middle eastern though. Gross.

gravedanger: These people hate western culture but can't do without all the bells and whistles it provides. Hypocrites
