Monaco F1 2011 catch up?
#2
I was just going to start this thread. I'll be there this year, looking forward to it immensely.
Where are you staying Jase?
I think I will probably stay in Nice or Cannes and travel in for the day. Anyone have any thoughts on that?
Never been to the area so I'm trying to do as much research online as possible.

Hey Adamc, we always stay in Cannes and travel in by train for the day - its really easy and takes about 45mins, nice and scenic too. We stay at the Novotel Cannes montfleury, its in the hills begind Cannes but really lovely although the rooms are a bit small. Its very affordable compared to the others like Mirramar right on the beach and the hotel has a shuttle bus up and down to the main beach area every 30mins from 7am till 10pm. It is only a 15min walk though from the beach to the hotel though. The whole area is great this time of year but Cannes is fabulous - LOTS of cars to look at and gorgeous girls ( I will leave that to you though!!). Let me know if you need anymore info. BTW a great place to catch up is in the restaurant/bar at the bottom of the Stefanie casino right on the beachfront in Cannes at sundown approx 7pm.

Great tips!
I might end up just renting an apartment via VRBO.com or airbnb.com, but I will check out the hotel you mentioned as well.
Cannes was recommended over Nice as I guess the quality of beaches and nightlife is better. It will be my first trip to the south of France & first F1 even outside of Canada.
Jase are you buying grandstand tickets?
Maybe if there are a few more TSers planning on attending we could rendevouz for a cocktail one of the nights.

So I scoped out all of the info on the official Formula1 site. Paddock access is like $3k per day which is more than I want to pay.
Anyone have insight on which grandstands are best? Or maybe what the apartment tickets are all about?
Is it cheaper to buy in person or online prior to the event? Trying to get a buddy of mine to come with and he's wary of huge cost overruns.
Monaco Bodyguards, come drop some knowledge bro!

I would love to park a yacht next to the harbor chicane and have it overcrowded with friends while the race is happening.
That is an expensive dream though.
I would come nowhere near being able to even afford to go to this race right now.

Guys, having been to the Monaco GP few times I would suggest having everything booked and paid for BEFORE leaving home so that you minimise the risk of a massive budget blowout - lets be frank here, Monaco isnt cheap and it is less so at GP time so be aware of this. As far as grandstands etc go - Monaco at GP time is an awesome place to be no matter where you sit, grandstands around the swimming pool area are always a good place to see the action and reasonably priced.
Who is in for a TS catch up on Saturday after Quali or Sunday after the race?
