how old are the kids? Times square is really a big hole that I attempt skip every trip i make to NYC. I would recommend going up around the park(central). Lots of open space and better food. However, there is Carmines if you like homestyle italian food in times square.

If the kids are not tiny goign down to Soho/east village is also nice depending on weather(lots of walking).

Avoid Times Square like the plague. It's just the same old chain restaurants you can get in any strip mall for double the price. As for food, there are many other NYC TS'ers who can point you in the right direction.

I would vouch for carmines, that place is amazing!! The kids will love the "Titanic", it's one of their desserts.

Kids are girls 10 and 14 with perfect manners. Want to go to some nice places just not a couples only place that is uber expensive and nothing for kids/young adults to eat.

Some other restaurants that are kid friendly in TS are:
Bubba Gump (1501 Broadway, at 44th St.)
Hard Rock Cafe(1501 Broadway, nr. 43rd St.)
Olive Garden (201 W. 47th St., at Seventh Ave.)
Planet Hollywood (1540 Broadway, New York, NY 10036)
Junior's Cheesecake (1515 Broadway New York, NY 10036)
Carmine's (200 West 44th Street)

These are not in Time Square but they are good for kids

Serendipity 3

probably going to be a long wait at this place, while one adult is waiting for table, have another adult take the kids to Dalan's Candy Bar around the corner on 3rd ave so they won't be bored.
Dylan's Candy Bar Store Locator New York City

Hope this helps and have fun in NYC

Having been to NYC last December I would recomend going to Times Square jsut to say you have been. It is alot neater than I had expected. I had not been to the city before and was not one who ever really wanted to go. Went to see Phish at MSG.

I would avoid the chain restraunts too. But seeing Times Square at night lit up, as well as during the day were two very cool experiences for me.

I lived in NYC for many years, but I never ate on times square. Sorry.
