TFL isn't TOO bad. Just mark down 60 days before your visit and go on opentable immediately that day.

The first concierge to get me a reservation at El Bulli gets my respect

 

see, El Bulli wasn't *that* bad - send an email when they open up the email ines, wait 4 months, and you get a date another trick: if you find yourself in that area, just call them the day before - they often have cancellations (b/c people probably forget and/or are unwilling to give up the reservation until it's too late.) i've also heard they will spring out another table or two for walk-ins - given the location, i'm sure walk-ins are rather rare.

back before i was who i am (which isn't much), i could not get a TFL reservation to save my life. i would call non-stop, hit refresh on the computer; and never got anything. even with a connection, it's still harder than it needs to be.
