Zippy's - A Hawaiian Tradition

Whenever I travel to Hawaii, I have to stop at Zippy's on at least several occasions. Zippy's is a local chain with about 20 locations. Most of the restaurants offer counter service with a few table service locations scattered about. Although the fast food industry has infiltrated the islands, most locals still opt for a plate lunch for a quick meal. There may be some stand alone places that offer better individual dishes, but Zippy's is everywhere, it's consistent, the restaurants are clean and usually enclosed and they are open late. Anyway, here are a few things that we ate on our last trip.

Zippy's Kapahulu
5 Minutes from Waikiki

Loco Moco
Eggs any style, hamburger patty, brown gravy, rice, mac salad

Won Ton Min and Mac Salad
Chinese style noodles in broth with won ton

Portuguese Sausage, Eggs and Rice
The quintessential breakfast in the islands. Fried rice is my choice of starch.

Chili Burrito
Bean Chimichanga, Zippy's famous chili and cheese - The ultimate meal after drinking.

Teri Beef Bun and Small Saimin
Teriyaki Beef, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo on an onion roll. This is combo #4 on the menu.

Zip Pac
Teri beef, fried mahimahi, fried chicken, fried spam and rice. This is the favorite meal to take on a picnic or to the beach.

thank god I just tossed a 3/4 lb hunk of roast beef in the oven to warm up so it can hop onto a nice bun with some Gorgonzola and sharp cheddar!

+ hot sauce

but in regards to the thread at hand the Loco Moco, portugese Sausage and the Zip Pac look absolutely de-lish-us.

Chili Spaghetti for the win.
