"Finally! Some proper Chinese dumpling!" thus declared the mrs, who thinks the ones in LA are poor imitation of what she's had in Beijing.

Finally, some proper authentic Sweet and Sour Pork (糖醋排骨), which doesn't exist in the U.S. The literal translation is Sugar and Vinegar Spare Ribs, and not that nasty sauce you get in the U.S.

Pacific Lobster. Love it, don't know why they are so hard to come by in the U.S.

Stir Fry Sweet Potato Leaves, it's teh awesome.

Taro Cake

Chinese BBQ Pork, Roasted Duck, and Roasted Chicken

I don't get why you're pointing out "finally! authentic!"

Of course it's authentic.

that's like trying to find a good poutine outside of Quebec. A good deep dish pizza outside of Illinois. A good bagel outside of NYC. I could go on.

/rant.

Glad to hear you're having a great time. The food looks incredible. I have had the SE Asia (mainland) on my mind for a few months now.

Well, in LA, the SG Valley you can find everything I posted.

But for some reason they either don't bother carrying this dish, or it's on the English menu with the nasty sauce. That's why I said finally.

You can get pretty decent approximation of most dishes from Taiwan in the SG Valley, but not this.

sorry if I came off as a dickhead. Pulling off an all nighter for what turns out to be an unneeded reason might make anyone cranky without coffee.

Stay safe.
