Quality Seafood - Redondo Beach Pier

A few weeks back, I met up with some friends at the Redondo Beach Pier for a fresh seafood brunch. The place of choice is Quality Seafood. This place is an open air seafood market that will prepare what you buy on the spot in several different simple preparations. You can also get beer and wine on the premises. I think it's best to go with a group of people so you can get a small sampling of a lot of things. Get there early (before 11:00) if you want to comfortably find a seating area. It gets extremely crowded around lunch time.

Here's the market:

Dungeness

Lobster

Local Rock Crab

Spider Crab

Blue Crab

Oysters

Clams

Fish

Here's the meal (most of it)

Sea Urchin

Oysters and Clams on the Half Shell

Steamed Maine Lobster and Dungeness Crab

Steamed Clams in White Wine and Garlic

Fish and Shrimp Ceviche

Deep Fried Smelt

Good stuff. Short walk from the house. I grabbed a pile of fresh clams and mussels for the gf to make paella. One thing they don't have there is live shrimp. They do at other places on the pier, but its $30.00 per pound.

yeah, it's a bummer that they don't have live shrimp. they do have the smaller head on shrimp, however, that is great when they are deep fried whole.

That looks amazing, reminds me of the open live seafood restaurant place in Bangkok.

I'm at a point in my gastronomical life where a Taco Bell would make me happy.
