I was accepted to UCLA Anderson for b-school and my wife and I will be visiting the area next week to see how we like it. She is from S FL and I was born and raised in ATL, where we currently reside.

We arrive Thursday, leave Sunday and will be staying at the W in Westwood, as it seems central. I have booked breakfast at Paradise Cove (in Malibu) for Saturday because it looked cool online.

I know we want to visit Beverly Hills and we also need to look for potential places to live on a student's budget (with loans). Any thoughts?

Also, any recommendations for a dinner spot that will give us the LA experience for $100 per person, or am I dreaming?

Firstly congrats on being accepted to Anderson - great school.

I'm a UCLA grad and in the Property Development industry. I can speak to our management division and find out what vacancies we have right now. PM me your monthly budget and i'll see what i can do to help out a fellow Bruin. You'll probably be best going through UCLA grad housing - it's all pretty much brand new and will certainly be cheaper than the surrounding areas. I have a new property that just came online which could be great for you actually - it's under rent control and is cheap.

The W is okay, the bar is nothing special. It is is fairly central and close to UCLA obviously. I'd honestly hit up Maestros for dinner in Beverly Hills on Canon Drive, it'll cost less than $100 a person.

The LA experience? hmmm... try Katsuya or if you want a bit cheaper hit the Izakaya for a great sushi experience. I actually somewhat prefer the Izakaya even though its cheaper and have seen one of the olsen twins there twice as well as Nicole Ritchie and many other celebs.

Mastro's in BH will give you a good flavor of the city within your budget...I always have a good time at Mastro's...

LABrit - What sort of property development? I've been in commercial real estate (primarily brokerage) for the past several years. If I had to guess, I'd say we'd like to keep our rent in the $1500 range. I know it will be small, but we're okay with that. It also depends on whether my wife finds work. Plus, we have a dog (85lb chocolate lab) that we'd like to bring with us. If we can't, we do have a couple of good "foster homes."

The W seemed like the best bet for our few day stay. I wanted to see where everything was in relation to the campus. Plus, we're getting a decent room for about $250/night.
