Turks & Caicos Islands...any good?

Thinking about a warm tropical trip. Get out of this miserable Detroit weather.

Anyone been to the Turks/Caicos Islands? How is it?

I've been to the Atlantis in the Bahamas...very touristy...but we (My GF and I) had fun.

Are the Turks less commercialized? More laid back?

Where else in the Carribean would you rather go?

depends on what you want. I am going there for the first time, staying at beaches, buy I'm bringing two little kids, and its their vacation. Very kid oriented place. For wife and I, different choices

quiet secluded:
Petit St Vincent, Grenadines
Biras Creek, Virgin Gorda
Caneel Bay, St Thomas
Dixs Bay, St John

Busy
La Samana, St Maarten

Heard good things about Cap Juluca, Jumby Bay and others.

Tell me what you are looking for.

Theres an interesting article in the proper GQ ( British ) this month about the Turks. Nothing about tourism, just about the government.

Turks is good. Plenty of resorts along the north coast. Providenciales is a nice little touristy city if you like that kind of thing. I would inquire as to the current state of damages caused by last year's hurricane.

Definitely nowhere near Atlantis hustle/bustle. Cheaper too.

I'm heading to St. Barts next month. Love that place.

I am on Turks now, heading into my second week here. The water is gorgeous. Staying this week at footprintsonthebeach.com villa -- rental includes a hummer H2 for the week.

Snorkeling from a chartered boat from a couple of days ago was awesome...check it out:

Thanks for the information.

I am thinking about taking a 4-5 day trip with my girlfriend and 8 yr old daughter.

I know my daughter would love all the pools and aquarium at Atlantis, but I have been there already, so just looking for somewhere new to go.
