Guitar Players---need some finger remedy

I just switched my strings out to 11 gauge and been playing for about a month on these. Just wanted to try and get SRV tone and style and DAMN it's not easy on my fingers. I get bruises every night.

Besides just practice, anything to help it? They're really starting to peel out and blister. And no switching to light gauge isn't an option. I want to learn on these.

Haha I figured someone would say man up. It just hurts a lot, especially with blues playing on lower frets.

You can try to dab some rubbing alcohol on your finger tips...the skin will harden after a few applications...

Maybe have a Strat with light strings and one with heavy strings that you can switch back and forth to give your fingers a break. SRV used 13s, it could be a slow painful process.

Yeah I know he used everything from 11s to 16s. Crazy stuff. I'm planning to buy a new guitar soon and it'll 99% be a strat, and I'll go with light gauge, but just curious if there was some way to avoid this now. I'll just deal with it, whatever.

Thanks for the help though guys.
