Here's one of the greats and I bet know one here has ever heard of him, the late Shawn Lane, a Memphis great

^Ha! I remember learning to play that Ozzy/Rhoads album note for note when I was a teenager. Most of it, Mr. Crowley is still insanely difficult. Played until my fingers bleed, literally.

Love all the Led Zep stuff.

This gem from Angus Young is not the most technical guitar playing, but it sure gets the crowd going...

I heard him play a version of "All Along the Watchtower". The notes just flowed out of him. Another tragically young death.

All great solos guys!! Ones that really got me sitting up in my chair were Paul Gilbert solos. AMAZING!!

IMO I don't think Tom Morello gets much credit. Fast forward to 1:14.

Lot of great stuff. All the speed etc is awesome... and Wylde's rendition of Sweet Home is unreal, Chris.

But, I am always brought back to David Gilmour's playing. I love Jimmy Page as well, but Gilmour's note placement is always what's so perfect about his playing. He doesn't need the flash, he's just a solid player, period. Definitely my all time favorite

I've been listening to this guy a lot lately, plays lead guitar for Five Finger Death Punch:

Chris, when Minid's mom taught Music Appreciation, I offered to come in as a guest speaker. Wanted to start the class with this.....
