My SKS went kaboom today.
Long story short, the piece of metal where the pin goes on the bottom of the after market dust cover cracked off and if it weren't for the 4 screws that keep the scope from wobbling it would have gone into my face! My brother pointed at the back end and the back of the cover was sitting about an eighth inch higher than the front so there was a gap where there shouldn't be one. It was quite a shock to say the least. (made in china btw)
What happened was the bolt was binding with screws that hold on the scope mount, they protrude a little bit on the inside of the dust cover (im sure it shouldnt do that at all and I think the previous owner may have used longer screws than what it came with originally). So I guess the 20 shots were enough to weaken the metal because every time the gun shot the bolt would slam back and grind against the long screws). I was adjusting it as I went along so it would stop interfering and at the same time trying to keep the scope at zero.
I figured it was just going to bind and be a pain in the ass until I was done tweaking it, never did I think it was going to have a major failure.
So there you have it. I managed to KB an SKS.
Since I don't think anyone knows what I'm babbling about here's a pic of a dust cover with scope and scope mount.

That little piece thats protruding to the lower left with the hole in it is what cracked off.

Did you love the part where they blew up in your face too? or did you not have that particular issue?

I have an SKS too but I modified it with carbon fiber body, scopes, 30 rounds magazines and painted it black, but i don't always bring my weapon out because I feel its illegal. I have a case in which to hide it.
