City plan would ban new gun clubs - TORONTO

globeandmail.com: City plan would ban new gun clubs

Toronto Mayor David Miller wants to ban gun clubs, firing ranges, and gun makers from Toronto.

Why, because "That hobby directly results in people being shot and killed on the streets of our city."

It seems the mayor thinks everyone is as ignorant as him. He expects us to beleive that the gun clubs and firing ranges are all covers for illegal gun activity, and by banning law abiding, permit carrying citizens from joining gun clubs or visiting firing ranges in the city of Toronto, he will stop all gun related crimes.

(I doubt it will pass, but regardless, this shows the ignorant, fearmongering though process of our politicians. I guess you have to get votes some how.)

There are an absurdly high amount of shootings in Toronto though. Not sure if this will stop it, but just saying.

per capita, or however else you want to measure, what do you consider "absurd"?

Growing up and living in Toronto (and the suburbs), I don't think that we have an excessive amount of gun related injuries/deaths. Obviously, when their is much publicity on any gun related death, it scares people, and they think the situation is worse than it really is.

I heard of a report a while ago (last year I beleive, but I cant find it) that stated the gun related deaths/injuries in Toronto have gone down (the actual number was up, but per capita, it was down consistently over the last 10 years or so)

I don't know. I grew up in Mississauga and visit Toronto at least once a month and every time I'm there I hear from someone "Yeah there was a shooting there last night we can't go there, it's sketchy". Every single time.

I don't think many criminals go to gun clubs or get permits for weapons. This is just another knee-jerk response from the anti-gun zealots.
