How do you decide?

I can't believe we don't have more ranges in this and the surrounding areas - what, there's a private one in Ojai and that's about it I think. You think there would be something in Simi at least!

What is this private range in Ojai you speak of?

Welcome to the Team BTW - Post up some Pics of that Raptor!
*sorry for the thread jack curve!

So, we (my brother and I) did a 7 gun shop 500 mile drive yesterday, to check out the stores within 150 miles of us.
Bought something at every location (including my SIG).
Very interesting information gathered, most are dark, stale, poorly lit, and cluttered. It seems that ours is a go. Meeting with the banks next week!

I wish you good luck, customer service is very key, i've found a great local shop out here after going to numerous stores. Most were pompous jerks. I am very new to guns and am learning a lot and most looked at me like I was completely stupid (I admitted walking in that I was) and treated me the same. I found one shop that was able and completely willing to teach me what I wanted to learn and answer questions for me. The huge benefit is that they are pretty darn cheap (cheaper then any of the other shops around).

I think the key is that weapons are meant for fun (for most of us). Yes, they serve multiple purposes, but go to a gun range on a saturday and see whos there.
It isnt a bunch of "operators" getting ready to re-deploy to the 'stan or Iraq. Its families, kids, and enthusiasts that just love to blast away. Its meant as fun, for 99% of people. Why spoil that experience looking down on someone for being new to it?

I've also heard mixed rumors on why the range is gone (fire, suicides, landlord, etc.)
