Thumbs up Buying First Handgun Help

Birthday is on the 8th - Wifey wants to get me my first Handgun, since I've been asking to get one for about 5 years now. She will be shooting it as well, since she had so much fun at the range. Actually got a Text from her this morning that work is pissing her off and that she wants to go let off some steam at the range

I know we have a lot of experienced shooters on the board so I figured I'd ask around. I've already hit up a few members. (thanks SoCal, Stuka, theDude, etc.) to get some opinion, but since the time is near for purchase I figured I would ask my fellow TS'ers. Going with a 9mm to start. I've shot a decent amount in the past, but stopped about 6-7 years ago. Shot mostly .22's and some long guns. Recently went to the Range with Wife, and Rented a Glock 17, and S&W M&P9 Compact. Left the Range loving the Glock, and wifey liked the M&P but didnt like the compact. So I've researched the crap out of Handguns for the last few days (mostly on Calguns.org since Cali has slim pickings in this dept.) and came up with a few options. I plan to go out to the range again and try to shoot an SA XD9 and whatever else they might have at the range to gain perspective, but after my research these are the guns I like so far. Trying to keep the price under $700 OTD

Glock 17/19 (have not shot a 19 yet, but hope to)
S&W MP9 Standard 4.25" (shot the compact)
Springfield XD9 Standard (have not shot, but highly recommended)
CZ 75b or SP-01 (Have not shot, but hear great things)

Gun will be mostly used for fun at the Range, and partial SD, but will def. be picking up more stuff in the future (shotgun, long guns, etc.)

Glock 17 or 19. Reliable, accurate, easy to use, very light recoil... Do it. I've been a Glock instructor, so I know of what I speak.

I have a G19, so I can recommend that pretty highly. I never cared for the Glocks until I tried a G17. I also have a Sig 226 in 9mm which is a great full size 9mm. It really comes down to what you are comfortable with. Let me know if you want to go shooting to try a few out.

Its always whatever you feel comfortable with, I definitely recommend trying out the XD it was one of my favorites. You really can't go wrong with any of them though.

What about GSSF? - Glock Sport Shooting Foundation

From what I hear you get a decent discount on your first Glock purchase, and an extra magazine. Anyone know the wait time?

And how come no H&K? I love my USP .40 and they make a killer handgun.
