Help "moving" some guns

Hope someone can iron out a few questions for me-

My father passed away and left me 2 guns, an old Japanese Rifle from the war and a Derringer .38 special purse pistol.

He never had a license for them and they are currently in NC.
I'm in CA, and want to get them here as efficiently as possible.

Do I need to get a license just to have these two old guns in my closet? Do I need to make the state aware before I bring them here?
Will a FFL to FFL require me or my mom to produce registration fo rthem?
Any info would be helpful, thanks!

I don't own any guns worth noting nor am I an expert, but member Secure seems to really have a great handle on all the gun transport laws in the US. Shoot him a PM. I see a nice handgun in my future and Mitch will be my go to guy.

It's interstate, it will have to be shipped directly to a CA FFL.

Then you'll have to go through the DROS process, wait 10 days, then go pick them up.

Oh and in FL, she doesn't have to produce anything. She can just ship the guns to a CA FFL.

Excellent info, thanks!

One more little question: Will we need to ship from a FFL or can fedex or other carrier go to an ffl?

The rifle and pistol should be legal in Cali. Like mentioned earlier you will have to go through an cfl on your end. Not sure about the shippers end.

A quick search on the calguns website will answer all your concerns too. I am not sure about your Kali laws

You can personally ship to an out-of-state FFL, just not to an out-of-state individual. You might want to overnight the handgun as they tend to come up missing if they sit in a warehouse.

Or, you can do an ffl to fll shipment.
The guns you're shipping aren't offensive, even in Kali somehow.
