US deploys 'game-changer' weapon to Afghanistan
#21
I'm somewhat skeptical (surprise ah?) about this "game-changer". This has been in the works for a long time, and if you look at the cost benefit for having a projectile that is currently smaller than the M203 grenade (with an equivalent or reduced damage factor) at a much higher-cost; doesn't it make more sense just to spend more money on better training and deploying more M203s with the troops instead of one or two grenadiers?

will this work well in urban settings where the enemy hides behind a wall and shoot through window? the projectile goes over the target so it won't work if the target is covered with a roof right?
pretty cool weapon. should have it a long time ago i heard there are guns that shoot around the corner or something too in the works.

I just don't get the utility of this device. So you have a complicated timed fuse that goes off if and when you can range find your target. I argue that a good (well trained) grenadier could get the job done just as well. Man, I'd hate to see it when someone goes full retard with this thing especially in a close quarter environment.

Yup.
This weapon is grenade lethality + rpg range + shotgun portability. Works great in A-stan where ambushes along patrol routes occur every day. The Tb's are hidden behind distant berms and pop up like deranged sesame street puppets on crack firing AK47, RPKs, RPG's, recoilless rifles - all heavy duty arms in the hands of psychotic monkeys.
While waiting for air support to clear the nests or blast open a mountainside, this weapon provides a way to get over berms and into windows of mud homes (whose thick walls are insanely resistant to conventional rounds) and rupture eardrums, collapse lungs, and start that bleeding that brings these cowards closer to Allah. While a .50 cal will do an amazing job, it wont penetrate berms and 2 foot thick mud/rock walls. Some squads won't have the M2, especially if on dismounted patrol.
It's definitely a game changer if you're the ambushed guy on the ground that can't clear the gaggle of taliban shooting from behind rocks and berms.
All they need now is an IED-defeater and the war will be won.
