I was just reading something recently, is it really illegal to have .45 cal gun in Cali? When I bought my XD, the case did say that was illegal in Cali, but I didn't really think much about it, now I'm wondering. If so, what's the reasoning?

.45 ACP handguns aren't illegal in California. However, like any other handgun, they have to pass a test before they are certified for sale by the DOJ.

If it's on the list, it's "California Approved." If it's not, you can't buy it. If it's on the list, it can stay on the list if the manufacturer continues to file renewal forms and pay renewal fees, even if the requirements for getting on the list have changed.

Also, the list does not apply to private-party transfers within California, and guns older than 50 years.
