Why do new guns come with...

Why do pistols come with a spent casing in a sealed envelope?

Im guessing (i have no idea)

when bullet is fired, it is unique to the gun and is identifiable.

Im guessing the shell has some type of indentifiing mark as well.

Im was thinking it was the bullet grooves from the barrel. Like they keep the slug for the unique grooves of the barrel and the casing is proof they did the test? I dont know. I guess nobody really knows!

SoCal is an unknown quantity at this point
The rifling in the barrel of each pistol and rifle is specific to that weapon alone. Each pistol is test fired and that projectile is kept for the purpose of matching it to a one that may have been used in a crime.
