Are Luxury/Supercars at higher risk of being Stolen and/or Vandalized?

Hi everyone,
I am curious to know if Luxury or Supercars are at higher risk of being Stolen and/or Vandalized?

I never really worried about that before, until it came up in my most recent conversations.

I mentioned to 2 guys (on separate occasions), that I'm interested in buying a Luxury car in the future, likely an Aston Martin Rapide.

The reaction from both persons, was that: "A car that expensive is likely to be stolen."

I didn't think, and still don't think that thieves will try to steal very rare cars.
My reasons:

1) A stolen (or any) Aston Martin would attract a lot of attention, and can be much easily spotted out once reported.

2) From what I know, most stolen cars go to "Chop shops" to be dismantled and sold for parts.
Aston Martin Rapide parts can't be high in demand, so it would be a bad idea to try to selling it's parts.
(Actually, there are no Aston Martin Rapides in my small country, I believe)

3) If if the thief tries to sell the stolen car (intact), I don't think anyone would try to buy such an expensive/rare car illegally (without having the paperwork).

4) Luxury Cars are more likely to have stronger Anti-theft systems, GPS Tracking, etc... Thus more risky to attempt stealing.

So what do you guys think? Please share your points.

- Should car theft be a deterrent for buying a Super/Luxury car?
- Do you personally know anyone that had their Luxury car stolen?
- Do you own a Luxury car and worry about it being stolen?

I think that cheaper, very common cars are at higher risk of being stolen.
They are harder to identify, and there is a much larger market for the parts of those common vehicles.

====================

Lastly, on the point of Vandalism.

Are Luxury cars at higher risk of being vandalized?

(I have no "Enemies" by the way. I would expect that only from a complete stranger.)

Do people out of jealousy or some other reason, choose to vandalize Luxury cars more often?

Looking forward to hearing your opinions!
Thanks!
-Andrew

Andrew - your thread is hard to read with the wacky paragraphs and bold face. Cheaper cars will get stolen for parts. Expensive cars are harder to steal, however more haters will vandalize expensive cars, figuring "rich people" can afford to get them fixed.

I was lucky I did a carfax on this yellow 997TT I found as it was stolen and best to piss then wrecked. To top it off, a Porsche dealership was trying to cover up the"history" luckily my Porsche guy looked it up in their database for me.

Depending on the rarity of the car, I'd say the chances are fairly low. For ultra exclusive cars such as Zonda's and Veyron's, it is unlikely that they would be stolen because you can't get away with driving such a car without it being noticed.

In your case, I wouldn't worry too much; I don't think Rapide's are highly valued on the black market. Could be wrong though.....
