Hey Speed Freaks,
Bentley, Aston Martin, and Maserati - all established exotic marques of highly respected pedigree and sporting credentials. These low volume brands collectively sold 2,576 sports cars in North America in the first 4 months of 2008. Now consider that the Swedish speed freaks at niche super car manufacturer
Koenigsegg will hand-build just 35 cars for worldwide distribution in 2008/2009. If you have the means and the cojones to pilot one of these, head over to Glen
Cove, Long Island-based Universal Autosports, currently the sole U.S. Koenigsegg dealer.
2008 marks the first year that Koenigsegg becomes certified for the U.S. And Universal Autosports President Giacomo Ciaccia tells me that his new
dealership, which also sells pre-owned exotics, will get five of Koenigsegg’s latest and greatest CCX offerings in the 2008/2009 calendar year and that each
one takes a full year to build at the company’s production facility in Margretetorp, just outside the town of Ängelholm. Ciaccia knows a thing or two about
selling exotics; he was previously the GM at Ferrari/Maserati of Long Island, one of the top Ferrari dealerships in the country, for 10 years before he opened Universal Autosports.
As many of you know, the CCX [stands for Competition Coupe X] is not just some super car; it is an alumnus of the exclusive top speed club that includes the
likes of the McLaren F1 [240.1 MPH], Bugatti Veyron [253.81 MPH], and current Guinness World Records-certified production car holder, the SSC Ultimate Aero [256.15 mph]. Ciaccia tells me that once a long enough straightaway is secured, Koenigsegg will attempt to once again break the production car speed record with CCX [before the Veyron came on the scene, the Euro-spec CCR held the record at 241 MPH].
A brand new, brilliant blue CCX took center stage at Universal’s grand opening yesterday and there were gratuitous amounts of drooling as a result. Ciaccia
tells me that this particular 808 HP beast is sold and that the lucky owner has been waiting 5 long years for his baby. To say the CCX is exotic does not quite do the car justice. Aside from the astonishing performance [0-60 in about 3 seconds] and NASA- grade racing technology harnessed under all that shapely
bodywork, the CCX simply has the coolest doors ever. You have likely seen Gullwing-style doors [think Mercedes] and Scissor doors [think Lambo], but the
CCX’s dazzling carbon fiber doors open in one motion, freeing themselves from the body and simultaneously swinging upwards and coming to rest at a 90-degree angle. It is something that will never lose its cool factor.
There was plenty of other eye candy lining Glen Street during the party. Other special guests, to name a few, included many a prancing horse from Maranello, raging bull from Sant'Agata Bolognese and snarling Viper from Detroit.
You haven’t heard the last of this beautiful blue CCX. Team Speed will be getting some wheel time soon.
