Pagani Huayra fails to make U.S. homologation

That is what I was thinking. How could airbag system be major setback for the company?

Horacio himself has just introduced the Huayra to the US (check other topic).. He wouldn't do that if he isnt sure that the car will proceed to de US..
Just another period of testing and they will reach a solution for the US regulations
Be patient

If Koenigsegg could make the ccx legal in the US why shouldnt Pagani be able to do the same thing? Very dissapointing, even though i dont live in the US. The US is a big "potential buyer" and would have been great for Pagani.

Koengisegg had an exemption, which has expired. However, they have applied for an extension, which by rule extends the exemption while the extension request is being considered (confused yet?). I haven't yet seen anything on the status of that request, however. But the NHTSA doesn't exactly work quickly on these things. My guess is that Christian had better have a compliant airbag for the Agera in the works.

Sorry to hear that, what a blow this will be for Pagani
Koenigsegg have funders with deeper pockets. I don't know who funds Pagani, if anybody at all.

if it's business decision not to invest the money for airbag system i understand. big chunk of money in this case. however, if the new project was designed & planned for the US market then the decision is not acceptable.
oh well, if DOT doesn't want u, u don't need US market. just move the allocation to China. doubt they have problem moving the unit.

As stated on forehand we talked to Pagani and received an official response to the story mentioned initially by CarsUK.net...
This is our story:
Read the complete story right here: Exclusive: Pagani Confirms Huayra will make it to the US in 2013
This is our story:
Pagani has been frequently seen in the headlines the last week over the US debut of their latest creation, the Pagani Huayra. Reports in various media last weekend suggested the Italian supercar would not be able to sell its cars in the US after the NHTSA denied an exemption request from the advanced airbag rule submitted by Pagani over three years ago. In an attempt to find out what was going on, we got in touch with Pagani and today received their explanation on what has been going on.
First of all they like to share that with last weeks debut the Huayra and Pagani brand received an overwhelming reception by the invited media and customers.
But to clear up the current situation we have to go back three years in time. It was than in the Summer of 2008 when Pagani petitioned NHTSA for a temporary exemption from the advanced or ‘smart’ airbag rule as regards the Huayra. The exemption would have covered sales for the first few years in the US. Pagani adds:
“The fundamental motivation for our exemption request concerned having to prioritize our budget (we have to remember that this was happening at the start of a period of global economic uncertainty). And keep in mind, this exemption had already been given to companies such as Bugatti, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Koenigsegg and Spyker.”

Thanks for posting that. Pretty much what I've been guessing.
To be clear, these requests don't normally take three years. Read through the whole boring notice on the Federal Register, and you will see it stated that Pagani themselves pushed back consideration of the exmeption, due to the long gestation period of the C9 project (hence "Huayra").
