For every successful rapper there's a few million self-repressed, poor, uneducated, ignorant, substance-abusing idiots.

Why? Explain. And please don't bring race into it, because that has nothing to do with it.

First things first. You are the one who made sweeping statement.

Provide the evidence and or statistics to support it.

Fair enough. The only thing I can provide is anecdotal evidence. However, unless you've been sheltered from how the lower and lower-middle class in America actually lives, this shouldn't be much of a debate.

I've got 1 assumption:
The number of truly successful rappers is in the range of several hundred to a few thousand. I'm not talking about every moron who thinks they are a successful rap artist, I'm talking about the ones who actually are. Say, anyone who makes more than the average american in a year.

In the tiny city I grew up in, there were at least several hundred people who fit the stereotype I made. More of my high school class ended up at the very bottom of society trying to be Eminem or 50 Cent than those who went to college.

Now, living next to Philadelphia, I can honestly say there are thousands, if not tens of thousands, of people that are the same here. Everyone is so busy hustling that none of them take the time to figure out that they don't even know what it means.

So, going off of the Cencus, there over 300 million people in the US. Clearly, my 'millions' claim is exaggerated. But I have no problem assuming that tens of thousands, or hundreds of thousands, would be correct. Again, unless you're sheltered from these people, you have to realize that there are tons of them.

Our BS aside, the ultimate irony is that the reason people like 50 Cent and P. Diddy are so successful is because they are spectacular businessmen. Many of the people trying to imitate them seem to completely ignore this.

Great points, but who's really at fault?
The rapper or the parent(s) of the kids?
I grew up listening to rap, and i still do, but never did i ever try to emulate these guys though.

Watch this video.

I agree with the fact that there a lot more people who aspire to be rappers than those who actually succeed. Just like most professions (like pro-sports) and businesses, there a few who succeed and many who don't.

However, you went on to describe these people as

self-repressed, poor, uneducated, ignorant, substance-abusing idiots
very strong words for people you mostly never met or know anything about.

I listen to it once in a while, too. In younger kids, I'd agree it's a lack of guidance - parents or role models. But, once you're an adult, you're the only one accountable for yourself.

I agree, that is very strong. Maybe too strong.

I don't know all of them, but most of the people I grew up with ended up like that. Me moving out, going trough college, getting a good job, and buying a Lotus today, is definitely the exception to the rule.

+rep given for this disagreement going so smooth, especially on a forum.
