The engine air intakes are mounted near the roof, so it isn't too surprising. The really bad news here is that this was a salt water lagoon and not a fresh water lake.

For those questioning the spoiler being deployed, there are three aerodynamic configurations for the Veyron. Here's a shot for comparison purposes:

Normal mode (top) presents max ride height and a clean body. Handling mode (middle) drops the body and extends the rear spoiler and wing. Top-speed mode (bottom) hunkers even lower and leaves just a bit of wing showing. When braking in the handling mode, the wing tilts up even more to increase drag and rear downforce.
Normally, Handling mode doesn't engage automatically until the Veyron reaches 137 mph, however the driver can engage it at any time via a button on the dash which is likely what happened here unless a short in the electrical system caused it while in the water.

Me neither. Anybody know who it was? The articles I've read have all been mum re: his identity.

Horrible. I've made a mistake or two in my life, I genuinely feel bad for the guy.

For this guy - probably. His insurance will likely cut him a check, hopefully with favorable terms, and then he can go get another one. Then, just like the Enzo crashed by Eddie Griffin, someone will get their hands on the carcass for a reduced rate and find a way to restore it at some significant cost and it will end up back on the market with a whopper of a fish story attached to it and a slightly lower price tag then normal.

A friend of mine just sold him the car. I might call and ask who it was.

Maybe he didn't like the car and knew he couldn't sell it in this climate with the others on the market and drove it into the water for insurance money instead of sitting for a year on the market and getting 400k less than he paid.

sounds like money in the bank to me....plus even if he's with Chubb his rates forever are going to be stupid for anything he buys.
