When MTM took on the project of the Spyker C8 Double 12 S they wanted something "breathtaking," an "uncompromised experience in high performance motoring." The result could very well be described as such. Spyker is known for its C8 Spyder models which have spawned the glasstop C8 Laviolette and the C8 Double 12 R.
The normal C8 Double 12 S is the road-going version of the Double 12 R which is a 24 Hour Le Mans race car. In its road-going mode it can either produce 400PS (294kW) or an optional 600PS (441kW) from a 4.2-litre V8 Audi engine. The car has a top speed of either 300km/h (186mph) or 345km/h (214mph) matched to either power figure. The MTM version has gone from the standard 400hp (294kW) and now makes 500hp (368kW) through the addition of a supercharger at the cost of 40,000 euros.
The Spyker C8 Double 12 S has a glass roof like the Laviolette, a longer wheelbase than the C8 Spyder, a bigger fuel tank - 100 litres instead of 75 litres - and is overall quite a rare animal. But MTM has made it even rarer. Only 14 units were produced at the Spyker factory and only four of those have been modified by MTM.

The Double 12 S is absolutely stunning! I love the long-tail rear and all the exposed rivets. It really goes back to Spyker's roots as a fighter plane manufacturer. MTM also addresses the one problem I've had with calling a Spyker a true "supercar" and that is the lack of power. While 500 bhp is certainly a welcome addition to the equation, I still think Spyker needs an engine with an output closer to 600 bhp to really be taken seriously.
