He defended himself with the first one. Can't really say it's defense when the guy is on the ground and your kicking him.

On another note, I wonder how hard that guy can kick?

^^ They didn't continue the game after this incident. And yes, the red card was the right decision by the manage but the national football association cancelled the usual ban for the upcoming game because of his self-defence reaction.
