If you remember years ago in the NBA when a fast break situation occurred the defense would intentionally foul to stop the play. They initiated the clear path rule where the fast break team gets 2 shots and possession so that the foul would not be used to stop a sure score.
By intentionally grabbing your arm in the end zone, especially when the throw was spot on, they committed a foul to stop the score. Yes, you should score from the 1 yd line but by committing a foul the defense got to stop a sure score and another chance to stop the drive which in this case benefitted them. I don't like the rule. If it is catchable or the receiver makes contact with the ball and pass interference is called it should be an automatic TD. It will keep the corners honest in the end zone.
