Good luck! Are you on the mound tonight?
#17
Hey guys! Thanks everyone for all the Good Luck, it was greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, we ended up losing tonight in a tough game. We did not hit the ball well and made some very costly errors on balls that could have changed the game but baseball will be baseball. As soon as I see something up on the game I will post it. Thanks again everyone!

Final (C.R. Kennedy 12, Dowling 2)
Griffin Michael takes the mound and gets the Maroons out in order to complete the victory.
Top of the seventh (C.R. Kennedy 12-2)
The 10-run pattern continues. The Cougars bat around again and add five more runs, with the big blow being a Terrell Sykes two-run double. Jonathan Musser is lifted for Vinny Crivaro. The Maroons will get to bat, however.
Bottom of the sixth (C.R. Kennedy 7-2)
The Maroons knock out Austin Christensen and load the bases with nobody out. But relief pitcher Ryan Dusil gets Eric Lee to foul out to the catcher, then Jason McMurray to ground into an inning-ending double play.
Top of the sixth (C.R. Kennedy 7-2)
The Cougars add two more runs when Terrell Sykes doubles into right-center field to score Ryan Dusil from first base. Sykes then was awarded home plate after Dowling catcher Spencer Navin inadvertently flipped the ball into his dugout while trying to apply a sweep tag at home.
Bottom of the fifth (C.R. Kennedy 5-2)
The heart of the Dowling order goes down meekly, with two groundouts and a strikeout.
Top of the fifth (C.R. Kennedy 5-2)
A disastrous half-inning for the Maroons. The Cougars send 10 batters to the plate, and get three singles and a double, plus a hit batter, a bases-loaded walk and two errors by Dowling shortstop Jason McMurray, to score five runs.
Bottom of the fourth (Dowling 2-0)
The bottom of the Maroons’ order breaks through after the first two batters strike out. Alex McMurray dumps a single into center field, then scampers home when Brad Chelleen slaps a triple into the right field corner. Chelleen scores when No. 9 hitter Alex Lee grounds a single up the middle.
Top of the fourth (0-0)
Austin Christensen gets the Cougars’ first hit, a leadoff single to left, but Jonathan Musser gets the next three batters.
Bottom of the third (0-0)
Austin Christensen is much more aggressive in attacking the zone. Strikes out the first two batters before Jonathan Musser reaches on an error by third baseman Devon Jacobus. Pinch-runner Tommy Miller is caught stealing, however.
Top of the third (0-0)
Jonathan Musser has retired eight in a row. He gets his first two strikeouts then a flyout.
Bottom of the second (0-0)
Maroons strand two more runners after a walk and a hit batter. Austin Christensen strikes out Jason McMurray to end the threat. Pitch count at 42.
Top of the second (0-0)
Cougars go quietly on three groundouts.
Bottom of the first (0-0)
Austin Christensen works around a single to Jason McMurray and a walk to Lee Navin by fanning the final two batters of the inning. The lanky left-hander does throw 28 pitches, though.
Top of the first (0-0)
Jonathan Musser walks Austin Christensen with one out, but easily retires the other three Cougars.
Dowling Catholic is taking infield, and then we’ll get under way with the third quarterfinal. Maroons are the home team and will start Jonathan Musser (6-0, 0.90 ERA). Cedar Rapids Kennedy is going with Austin Christensen (7-4, 1.92 ERA). We’re still looking for our first competitive game today. Will this be it?
