Opening Day At Angels Stadium With The Family [PICS]

Yesterday - April 5, 2010 - my family and I attended our 6th consecutive Opening Day at Angels Stadium.

I have loved baseball since I was very young. My oldest brother was a huge fan and I really looked up to him. We took two trips - once in 1983 and again in 1985 - around the U.S. and Canada and visited every stadium in baseball. Those trips were the highlights of my youth. Since then, I have been a dedicated and certified baseball nut.

Having my family share the Angels games with me has become one of the most important things in my life. Last year - after my motorcycle accident in July - I was not able to attend any Angel games for the rest of the season and our tickets went largely unused. One of the hardest things for me in the hospital was seeing the Angels play on the television and yearning to be at the ballpark with my wife and children. I would watch the live broadcast and the delayed rebroadcast every time they were on. I longed for Opening Day 2010 when I would be well enough to attend the games again. Well, that day was yesterday.

It is amazing how we take little things for granted until we no longer have them. We have had season tickets for one team or another - starting with the Padres while I was in law school and now the Angels - for 9 years. I never realized how much the games meant to me and how important they were for bonding with my family until I could no longer attend due to my health. While I was in the hospital I used to imagine walking up to the front of the ballpark, entering the tunnel to the seating area, getting that first whiff of freshly cut grass before exiting out to where I could view that sea of green that is the field. That is a sweet smell indeed. I will never take it for granted again.

It was a great Opening Day. The Angels beat the Twins 6-3.

Towards the end of the game my youngest daugther put her arm around me and told me how happy she was that I could be there with her. It is a moment I will not soon forget.

Here are some photos of the game. Thanks for taking the time to read my highly sentimental post. You guys are a big part of my life too.

Here is a shot of me with my family while hunting for autographs on the outfield wall.

This is a shot of my son Paul and I before the game. He is a good boy. We are pals.

Here is a pictue of me and the kids again.

The field during the National Anthem. You could hear a pin drop.

Here are a few pics of the flyover.

That thing flew very close to the stadium's rim!

Here are two pics to remind those Ranger, Mariner and A's fans who the AL West Champs are.

Raising the 2009 AL West Champion Banner.

It was a sell out!

My reason for living.

I felt like a little kid again! I wish I still looked like one!

Enzo Man has been spotted!

Once again, thanks for reading my post. I love sharing these important moments with my Team Speed family.

You guys mean the world to me.

Dana you have such a lovely family, glad to see your daughter is in good spirits after her accident. Haha I laughed at the Enzo man sighting. Great post brother.

Yes yes yes!!

Glad to see you back at a game big guy. I just finished buying tickets so my wife and son can go see the Orioles Saturday evening with his grandparents. (I will unfortunately not be able to attend this one.)

We have a ticket package to our local minor league team and see them many times per season. I'm a Braves fan so I try to see them when they are in town as well. There is nothing like an evening at the ball park. Nothing.

i want to be negative, i really do, and I will make it a point to do so in a future/different thread that you have created, primarily because you are an attorney and sole poster in the Pit-Stop.

glad you had a good time with you family. there are some great memories in those pics. can't wait to experience the same thing with my kids.

Dana is way too into the Enzo man pose.. Gay Fantasy?

Before I saw that last pic my reply was going to be something like "Dana the family man is nothing like Barrister the rep whore."
