Twins And Mauer Agree On 8-Year $184 M Extension

Wow! Mauer finally get the money he deserves.

But in related news, Twins closer Joe Nathan will have season-ending surgery - before the season even starts. Big loss.

A roller coaster of a day if you are a Twins fan.

Joe Mauer is the Minnesota hero. I think the Twins realized they'd lose a lot of fans if they lost him.

That is a pretty good sized contract. Pujols doesn't even make $23 mil a year.

The Cardinals can't afford to keep him. That's why all of the scuttlebut about a trade for Ryan Howard arose this season.

Don't you think Howard would demand a pretty big contract too though? I would rather them keep Albert and spend big bucks on him than to get Howard and someone else. Pujols is the face of the Cardinals franchise and I think it would be wrong for them to let him go.

I couldn't agree more.

I don't know how the Cardinals even let that leak out.

Howard has better power numbers than Albert but is nowhere near as good a player all-around.

It won't happen. But the Cardinals want to make sure that Albert doesn't bolt for free agency and leave them with nothing to show for it.

Yeah, but luckily Pujols and Howard both played it off as a rumor so nothing big happened there. I also just found an interesting read on Albert's contract situation. Here is the link.

Will Albert Pujols Get A-Rod Money In 2012? | MoonDog Sports

Edit: I just looked at the date, it is a little old but still a good read

Mauer had a great year in 2009. But - as a catcher - I don't know if an 8-year deal makes much sense.

Just as long as he is stone cold April 5 - 8!
