I have seen numerous surgical procedures to repair bad achilles ruptures like the one described for Beckham. It is not pretty. In the orthpaedic field, the term "mop ends" is often used to describe a really bad rupture like that where the tendon is shredded on both ends and the gastroc is retracted. With the best orthopaedic surgeons in the world using every bit of technology possible, he is 9-12 months from playing and he will never pay at the level he has before the injury. At his current age of 35, he is an old man by professional athletics standards and the 35 year old body does not heal as quickly or efficiently as much younger atheletes. I really feel bad for him

Underrated ? Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of Hargreaves but you have to play to be rated.

Back to Becks, I truly feel bad for him... Football carrier is probably over. Even though it was inevitable, it's nice when you call the shots and not an injury.

To the docs in the room, how does this happen anyway? No tackle, how come it was so fragile?

I know Hargreaves isn't playing right now (or for the past couple of years) - I was referring to him during his active seasons. I think he was underrated at Bayern, and he was underrated by England until he came to United. To think that Capello is considering him with ZERO playing time speaks VERY highly...
