Just started playing
Hey all, I just started playing online to feed my gambling addiction (I'm usually a 21 guy).
Is there a chart somewhere that can tell me the odds of pre-flop hands and whether or not you should call? Some formula or something? I'm finding a bunch of people calling and raising pre-flop and I'm never sure what my odds are.
Any other "n00b" advice is welcome as well.
Thanks

Odds are really easy to calculate. Most people only calculate odds after the flop though. A quick formula is to take the number of outs you have (number of cards to make your hand) and multiply that by 4 at the flop, and 2 at the river. That number will be your percentage of winning. So say you have four cards to a flush at the flop, you have 9 cards left of that suit that can make your hand---essentially leaving you with a 36% chance of hitting your hand (9*4).
Let me give you a quick idea of how to play preflop hands, or rather what to play. It varies significantly based on what you're playing (cash, tourny, sng, what kind of tourny, etc etc), but in general it should work. While you're still learning and can't learn the nuances of the weaker hands, only play 10J or better suited, AQ or AK unsuited and 7's or better wired (unless you can get in for cheap). I understand that leaves alot of hands I'm sure you play now out of the game, but trust me. Until you can play well, don't play them.
