Liverpool Captain Steven Gerrard Reflects On 'Massive Three Points'
The skipper believes Yossi Benayoun's winner could be a very important goal for the club, but conceded it is still advantage Manchester United...
Liverpool's habit of scoring late in Premier League encounters showed no signs of relenting today. For 90 minutes, their away fixture at Fulham looked destined to finish goal-less, especially after the visiting northerners struck the frame of the goal no less than four times in the first-half alone.
However, substitute Yossi Benayoun scored a stoppage time winner, meaning the Reds have usurped Manchester United to the head of the division.
Steven Gerrard - who was replaced by Daniel Agger - said, "It's a massive three points, we knew before the game that anything less than three points would not be good enough.
"I know it came late [the goal], but it was deserved. We hit the woodwork four or five times, and you think it may not be your day, but Yossi popped up. He's a special player.
"He hasn't played every game, but it goes to show how important squads are. That goal could be big for us."
Regarding Premier League crown-rivals and bitter north-west neighbours Manchester United, Gerrard said, "We'll see how United will do, we're hoping for a favour from Aston Villa. All we can do is keep on winning. We've got to let United know that they're in for a title fight and to do that we need to keep on winning games.
"United are still favourites. They have the game in hand," he concluded.
Benayoun added, "I'm happy my goal went in! It meant a lot for everyone. We can put more pressure on United now."

I don't understand why Rafa doesn't play Yossi more? Last year he was doing great with Crouch. Now he's doing great with Gerrard and Torres.
Pivotal goal against Real during the first leg at the Bernadeu gave them the away goal and now this?
As well as Rafa is doing lately, sometimes I just don't understand him. He actually wanted to see Xabi during the summer transfer window. To be replaced by who exactly?
Keane?

IMO Liverpool gave up one the EPL when they were satisfied with a point at the Emirates against a weak 10 man Arsenal its ok to draw or even lose but only when your mentality is "I wanna win every game" once you're satisfied with a draw your doomed..... Plus the way things are now Liverpool have to win every game and hope Man U lose which is the worst place to be
