Chelsea Keeping An Eye On Michael Owen
Chelsea are currently second in the Premier League table, one point behind leaders Liverpool after 16 games.
The Blues are the league's top scorers having found the back of the net 35 times, with Nicolas Anelka topping the individual charts with 13 Premier League goals.
However, it seems that the Pensioners' manager, Luiz Felipe Scolari, is still in the market for attacking reinforcements.
According to a report in the British tabloid The Sun, the Brazilian is hoping to take advantage of the fact that Newcastle United are yet to extend Michael Owen's contract beyond next summer.
But the England international, whose brace against Stoke City on Saturday took his tally to six league goals this season, insists that he is not the only Magpies player in that situation.
"It is something that has been spoken about for a long, long time now," said Owen with regard to his contract.
"I had talks with the club about five or six months ago. We were negotiating but then all the hysteria happened.
"Kevin Keegan left and a lot of the people on the board as well left and some of those people were the ones we were negotiating with.
"Since then there has been so much happening that we haven’t resumed.
"The club obviously haven’t got back to us yet. As soon as Joe Kinnear came in as manager he mentioned that he wanted to do that.
"So we are going to speak to the club whenever he organises a meeting or anything like that.
"There has been loads going on at this club so player contracts have not been top of the agenda for a while.
"And not just for me, by the way. There are about five players who are in their last year.
"I can understand the club not getting back to us because there have been bigger and more important things to concentrate on. That’s the situation."
