Insight on the Atlanta area?

LOL
Interesting. Thanks for the vid. Moving to a city with fiscal responsibility? Hmm...that would be novel
Nice. If anything pans out there job-wise, I'll certainly look into these areas.
Anyone have info on Duluth?
Sandy Springs is looking pretty good. Plus I think the huge car meet is in Alpharetta, also on the north side of the city.

As far as the car scene, seems to me to be more about the shows and meets.
Not sure where you are coming from but I'm from NNJ and we had more runs and rallies.
Need to get stuff like that in this neck of the woods.
Love ATL though! Absolutely worth the move.

bone: moved to ATL a year ago, originally from DC. ATL is a great little town like everyone said. Housing is CHEAP compared to most cities. Weather is great, mild most of the year, except July/August like most east coast cities. People are extremely nice, in that southern inspired way. Only real drawback is traffic. All the burbs you're mentioning have a reasonable commute, but stay inside the "beltline" or you will be in commute hell if you're working in the city.
If you like in-town life, Buckhead is nice, but a little over-the-top money on display type stuff, Va Highlands is nice, a little more reasonably priced than buckhead, and 5 minutes to midtown. Decatur, 10-15 minutes to midtown (where we bought) is really cool....tons of new hip restaurants, bars and shops.... and you avoid all of the ex-frat boy crowds.
Hope this helps.....

There are some good and bad areas all over Atlanta and the surrounding suburbs. I am a native Atlantan, and lived in several areas. I know most mention living on the north end of town, but there are many more nice areas. Covington is an "okay" area depending upon where you live in that city. Atlanta is somewhat diverse, but at the same time somewhat segregated in some pockets.
South Fulton also is a very nice and quiet area, great for raising families, or single life. It is a slower pace than the north end, a la Buckhead, Roswell, Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, John's Creek, Milton, etc, for example there are some farms, horse ranches, in the area I live, but yet modern and nice. Serenbe/Chattahoochee Hills is also very nice and quiet. Some other nice areas on the south end are Fayetteville and Douglasville also.
It really depends on if you want more nightlife or more quiet surrounding you all the time. I prefer more quiet, as I can always get to the nightlife and city in less than 30 minutes. Housing is pretty cheap, lower on the nice south end, the highest of all I mentioned is John's Creek (highest property tax base in GA), shopping is great also. On schools it really depends upon the area, some suck and some are great.
On the job market, I am not sure what you do, but there are several businesses that have moved here recently, and quite a few jobs open depending upon the field.
Got more questions, let me know.

Are you still looking at moving here? I moved from MI 2 years ago. Compared to these housing prices are very high. We lived in a loft in Midtown for almost 2 years and absolutely loved it. We ended up buying a house in Roswell last month. We wanted to stay inside 285, but couldn't justify the price.
Atlanta has a lot of car activities here. Car shows are more normal than drives. If you want drives, The lotus club is a great club to get in with. they do a lot of Mountain drives.
If you already moved here
