Cigar advice

I am possibly heading north to help my Dad with some stuff. And I want to share my first real cigar experience with him. He's a light smoker, cigarettes, and I don't smoke at all.

I discovered a wine shop had a nice walk in humidor for me to spend some time and they currently have a sale going on with any Romeo and Julieta single sticks.

Is there a specific type I should pick up of the Romeo and Julietas? Or should I find another stick?

Never had non-cuban R&Js and I imagine they are probably terrible. Try finding some Arturo Fuente cigars instead, specifically either the Hemingway or Anejo series. Those are a mild, decent Dominican cigar (well the Anejos are not really mild by the Hemingways are). If it's a good sized humidor they should have some. If not, other brands to look for are Oliva, Illusione, Ashton, La Aurora, E.P. Carillo and Litto Gomez.

One general rule (but not absolute rule) to keep in mind is that Dominican cigars tend to be more mild than Nicaraguan cigars, which are almost always strong. The exception are the Fuente Opus X cigars, which are Dominican puros (meaning all of the tobacco is from the Dominican) and are quite strong. The larger ones even kick my ass.

RJ 1875's would work for your situation. They're decent everyday smokes and if you take your first puff and hate it you couldn't be out too much if you stopped smoking it.
