914 compete restoration to better than new
#11
Thanks guys, I'll try to keep the progress updated as we move along.
Motor got picked up this week by a legendary engine builder and land speed record holder. We are keeping the stock bottom end (only has ~50K miles) and the top end will be heavily massaged. Looking for +/- 200whp from this, which will be more than enough on a 2000 lb car.
As far as the aesthetics, we have decided to take this in more of an aggressive GT look. Still undecided on color at this point. May keep it original or may do something crazy like a Gulf or Martini livery. The car will be getting either 16 or 17" Fuchs just like the '71. All brakes and suspension components are being upgraded to 911 running gear much the same as the '71.
Opinions/suggestions welcome!

Here's a shot of the '71. The car we're building will have all the same drive train comps and maybe the same wheels, but be a bit more aggressive cosmetically
.

For the interior, we are planning on doing all-new original hounds tooth upholstery on the seats just like the '71 although we have (tentatively) decided to give the interior a more modern feel and are planning to re-upholster the dash and door panels in a modern leather/alcantera combination.

^ The '71 (silver) is an absolutely EPIC car. 40 years old and more reliable and way more fun to drive that 99% of new shit out there. The drivetrain is so well sorted on that car it's stupid. Hoping the '73 will turn out the same!

A Gulf livery would be unbelievably cool on that car. You've already got a super clean stock example, I say do this one a bit more wild!

Always had a soft spot for the 914! A neighbor had one of these but in Blue back when I was living in Austin,TX. Will be checking up on the progress so keep those updates coming. As to my suggestion for paint, Conda Green!

Some updates...car is coming along great. Hopefully she'll go to paint sometime before winter.
