I wish there were only a couple of 911 models. I would love to get one in the future but havent got a clue what to get? and by the time I plan to get one they'll probably have 100 different 911s. I'm a track guy so naturally I can imagine my convo with the salesman will be something like this:

me: I heard the gt3 is the car to go for if you like track days?
salesguy: Oh yes its Porsche's answer for the purist who enjoys pure driving.
me: Hmm... what about the gt3 rs then?
salesguy: Thats even more pure! Even more track based!
me: So does that mean its better than a gt2 on the track?
salesguy: Well the GT2 is our ultimate fast car !
me: so what about the GT2 RS?
salesguy: Thats even more ultimate! Thats even better!

you see what I mean? porsche have so many models of 911s they dont know what to do with them. Don't get me wrong, porsches are incredible machines and I have great respect and admiration for them, but there are just too many!!

I know the die hard porsche fans won't agree with me, just my opinion. All the best.

Ever heard of the quote "Don't fix something if it isn't broken" ?

Applies quite strongly here. Porsche do it because they can, it's a fantastic platform for new models and enables them to fine tune the car more and more as the new model gets designed.

It's all about precision.

Exactly, I don't see how making so many different variants of the 911 is a bad thing. I thought the GT3 was bad ass back in its 996.2 iteration (loved the 6.1 as well), then they came out with the RS and blew my mind. They've continued to amaze me with each successive GT3 and GT3RS model.

Now they're doing this with a limited production run of uber GT2s, what's not to like? Well, other than the fact that I can't afford one

C'mon man.... that Salesman is just an idiot.

Seriously, how many people will REALLY take the 599GTO out on the track? Be honest... Or the 430 Scud....really? you REALLY gonna take it out on a track?

with so many garage queens out there, the data would suggest otherwise. So Porsche isn't guilty of anything that any other car company is or isn't guilty of.

Sometimes (often) it's marketing and about making money. Personally if I had the means I'd love to have a GT3 and the GT2. Its not about what's better necessarily, but what's better for your particular lifestyle.
