Our 959 S at RSS / Stuttgart Performance

Thanks, Bryan. My 959 (under its previous owner) was featured (front cover) in the January 2008 issue of "Octane" magazine in a comparison with a Ferrari F40. I have a scan of the article if you would like it. The scan is ~2 MB in size.

This is kind of a stupid question, but I figured that there wouldn't be much of a chance that I will get to drive a 959 S. I have driven basically all of porsche model line including the Carerra GT a few times.
I know that it shouldn't be a direct comparison, but from your experience or people that you know that have driven the 959 S, how does it compare to today's sports car or more modern sports car like the 993 TT, perhaps the 965 3.6 Turbo or even the 996 TT?
I mean from the turbo lag, to the whole overall feeling of driving the car. How is the drive different from the 911 of today?

I don't understand, but why is this question so reluctant to answer? For those who have driven the car, only them can fully experience the joy and feeling of how those cars are like. Although a direct comparison is unfair, but at least it give the rest of us an idea how this legend perform.

Hi Takumi,
Not reluctant to answer your question at all - just busy and had some downtime for the holidays in the US.
The 959 S is a blast to drive, partially because you know you're driving a rare piece of Porsche heritage.
The turbos in our 959 S have been upgraded during the US conversion process and they hit early, strong and hard.
The car is not as nimble as the cars of today but still handles very well.
Since ours is a sport model, not a comfort model, this gives the ride a motorsports quality.
Cornering is fun and stable - but again, knowing you're in the 959 just makes it feel amazing...
We don't drive this car very hard when we take her out simply because of the cost associated with repairing simple things that could get damaged on our roads.
When we do take it out, the feeling from in the cabin is different due to the simplicity factor of the interior, but it's nice none the less compared to the newer cars and quiet.
The car feels solid, planted and fast - it does feel a bit dated compared to the cars of today.
Doesn't really compare to any other Porsche I've driven - not in a good or bad way, just in a world by itself....
Thanks

thanks that is a good sum up.
I pm an owner here who has an amazing collection. When asked about his comparison of some of his exotics, he is reluctant to answer. I thought that some owners doesn't like it and i found that odd.
Anyways, i just recently drove a CGT on the track, wish one day i can drive a 959S as well.

I love how the RS is being "towed" in that video.. but to be there..around all of those special cars..that would be "special".
I know what you mean by driving the 959. I have driven a TON of amazing cars..and everytime I drive the 993TT-S it just feels...AMAZING compared to most other cars.. becuase what it represents

The 993TTS is also such a great car and I totally agree with you that driving these older historic DNA Porsches is in a whole different world because of what they represent.
Take care, B
