Porsche 904; a totally unexpected street sighting

Notice the permagrin on the owners face, and the squatting rear suspension...

What a fantastic car

And an old image while racing in 1964... scanned in from "Porsche: the First 50 Years"
This car earned 2nd place at the 1964 Targa Floria, as pictured below.

This is likely the single coolest street sighting I've ever had

That's incredible! It looks just as good today as it did back in 1964!

Any idea how much something like that would go for on the auction block?

Love it - Beck makes a sick replica now. So tempting... I just need a 10-car garage so I can start filling it.

I know someone ( a friend of a friend) that can make 280-300 hp NA 4 cylinder bug engines (bored and stroked to 3 litres) that bolt right onto Beck cars.....I've been thinking seriously about a Beck 550 Spyder with one of those monsters....

You and me both. It's my dream to one day have the opportunity to DD a Beck 550 Spyder. I met a guy in Munich about 6 yrs back that drove his every sunny day. He had the vintage helmet and goggles to finish off the look. I forget his name but he was a cool dude.

The great thing is 200hp is PLENTY in those cars. They only weigh about 1700 lbs. I've found some great Beck 550s online, so if you're interested, you don't have to wait unless you want something very specific.

I have seen and sat in some Beck machines. The workmanship and quality is amazing. Something like 95% of the parts are fully interchangable with the original. In fact, many people use Beck parts in their restorations of original 356 and 550's.

Mine is going to be silver, with original looking chrome wheels and red leather interior. Although I admire the look, no James Dean copy-ing for me....no "lil bastard" on the rear deck or red sripes on the rear fin.

The 550 Spyders only weigh 1,300 lbs according to their website. 210 HP is the top spec engine you can order. When I do mine, I want to drive it hard and for it to be a total sleeper, so I have some special things in mind;

1) Upgraded brakes, Brembos, Wilwood or something similar
2) At least 250 HP for a NA motor that is bored and stroked. I want BIG torque
3) Original, stock looking 2 piece chrome wheels that have been widened, especially in the rear to deal with all of that extra power. They must remain original looking and fit in the wheelwells.

Someday.......some day very soon I hope.
