Australian GP Qualifying: McLaren 1-2 as Hamilton and Button shares top spots on the grid


Lewis Hamilton and McLaren team mate Jenson Button share the front row of the grid for the Australian Grand Prix.

A scorching lap of 1.24.922 put Hamilton clear of his team mate while Lotus’s Romain Grosjean took a surprise third.

This was despite team mate Kimi Raikkonen being eliminated in the first part of qualifying who missed the cut by a tenth of a second.

Both Ferraris missed out on the top ten and the Red Bulls with last years champion Vettel, consigned to the third row of the grid in position 5 and 6.

It looks like it's gonna be McLaren Vs. Red Bull this year...

Kimi Raikkonen finished 7th, he might surprise a lot of people this year.

Massa and Schumi didn't finish.

Well done McLaren!

But the season has just started and Vettels top tracks are still to come!


I have mixed feelings about Ferrari though,..they finally have to deliver imo!

Good race but McLaren really needed to finish 1-2 to put some distance between then and SV/Red Bull. SV isn't much off the pace of the MP4's and Red Bull will have plenty of time to develop the car!

mclaren vs redbull are intial thoughts, lets see ho it goes by the 4th race and then my judgement might change.

I think the top 5 positions :

not in order:

Top 6 based on today

Jenson,Lewis,Vettel, Alonso,Schumacher, Raikonen.
