Newey Ready To Start Developing 2012 Car
#11
Why's that? I'm sure most other teams are set to begin developing their 2012 cars, but it wouldn't do them any good to say that at this point since it would look like they've given up.

Don't get me wrong, Newey is my engineering idol. I'm still in school for mechanical engineering and I wish one day I will be in his shoes. But like Dana said, he is pretty much kicking everyone in the teeth with these statements. He is an aerodynamic God to say the least.

Why?? every team would of started their own 2012 plans by now this is nothing new in f1.. Also there is nothing too ground breaking in the rules for next year so will just be a continuation of this years cars for most..

This may be routine behind the scenes, but I have never heard an engineer from the World Championship leading team say that he has begun work on next year's car.
It is a pretty bold statement to make and is intended to needle the other teams.
But that is the position he has put himself in through hard work and success.
I don't begrudge it, I just call a spade a spade.

I also think Newey is playing some mind games with Mac and Ferrari with interviews like this.. I don't doubt that Red Bull have started on the RB8 as has all teams in some capacity would of by now I suspect except HRT which is still developing last years car
but don't for one minute think that they are not 100% focused on the continued development of the RB7 because RB don't have the race pace currently to be that confident, also the RB8 will just be an evolution of the RB7 so ideas developed now will carry through. Well until the next bunch of rash rule changes are brought in
