Post New York village in talks for US GP

Another possible venue for a future United States grand prix has emerged.

After talks for a race in Jersey City reportedly collapsed, it is now suggested that Monticello Motor Club, about two hours from New York City, has been earmarked as a possible alternative.

Autoweek published a letter from the club's president Ari Strauss to members revealing that the club - located in the Town of Thompson in Sullivan County - is in talks with F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone.

The letter also said Strauss met with Ecclestone a few months ago, and that F1 track designer Hermann Tilke has already visited the venue.

Strauss said Tilke "confirmed that our track and surrounding properties, with some expansion and minor track modifications, is an excellent location for a grand prix".

He explained that he is working on securing the "backing and support of local, state, and federal politicians and organisations" and warned that "securing F1 is like winning the Olympics, competition is fierce, and this is not a done deal".

That'd be pretty cool. I don't care where it ends up being, but I just want to see F1 back in the US.

US definitely needs a GP but isn't Monticello Motor Club more like a country club for car enthusiasts? While the circuit may well be up to scratch I struggle to understand how they could cope with the infrastructure demands of hosting an F1 event.

Monticello is billed as an "exotic car country club", but the course is quite good and technical. The full loop is also quite long, over four miles, and has a pretty long straight.

It would certainly be on my short list for an F1 race, the problem would be with spectator capacity and the surrounding towns being able to cope with the volume of traffic and people.

It really would be the most amazing F1 event of all time if we had an NYC GP.

It just doesn't seem like it can keep up with the demands of F1, not that Jersey City would have been that much better but little towns like that might eventually force them out unless it creates tons of new jobs which it could
Any just bring F1 back to the US preferably in NYC
