Ferrari Denies Subliminal Marlboro Livery
You know it is a slow news week in F1 when this crap makes Autosport.

I think that tobacco sponsorship - of any kind - has been completely banned from F1.

***Edit***
After some quick research I have found out that cigarette advertising has been banned in Europe for some time. Especially on television, where F1 was scooting by on it. As of 2008 Ferrari, last team of course, ended advertising Marlboro on their cars and crew.

Hi,
It is illegal in Australia as well, has been since '92.
The price of a pack of ciggies just went over $15AUD on Friday. In an effort to stop people smoking. I must ask the government, if they are so serious about stopping people smoking because of the burden on society, why not pony up and ban tobacco products entirely?
Life without the excise revenue might not be worth living.
For the sake of the discussion, what is the symbol meant to be? How does it relate to Ferrari at all?
Cheers,
Nik

Tobacco advertising was banned but the Philip Morris Ferrari deal runs until the end of 2011.
The sponsorship is worth $1B over 5 years! It was when they inked this extension in 2005 that Vodafone shifted from Ferrari to McLaren. Vodafone felt that their (not insignificant) $50M/year sponsorship should give them major sponsorship rights. Ferrari said "normally it would but Philip Morris have offered this much so we have no choice, sorry"
Ferrari's official team name is still Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro.
