Ken Block in WRC driving a Ford

iHeartAuto.com Ken Block will be driving WRC in a Ford :

Ken Block who is well known for his Gymkhana video’s in a Subaru STi will be driving a Ford Focus in WRC next season.
“Racing in the World Rally Championship has always been a dream of mine but I’d still be dreaming if I promised podiums in the near future,”
“I will be going head to head with the greatest drivers on the planet. And sure, I will be giving it my all, but my main objective for 2010 is to develop into a competitive driver for 2011 and beyond.”
Block is backed by energy drinks Monster Energy and will have the car prepared by Cumbrian Firm M-Sport, which runs the works Ford team in WRC.

He is a talented driver and this is an awesome opportunity for him but the WRC is a different league. I hope he does well.

Will the Ford be FWD or AWD?

This is great news! The new Ford Focus plant will be opening in March and the US will finally be getting the euro-spec Focus (including the RS!!!) here so I guess this is a good way for Ford to get some publicity for the new version!

Another reason WRC kicks ass!
They will be airing it on HD Theater for 2010?

Wouldn't Pastrana be the better choice seeing he won the Rally America Championships 4 years in a row now with him coming into only his 6th season? Nothing against Block but just saying that Pastrana might have been the better choice.

^I completely agree. However, I think Pastrana is Subaru's boy, where Block is a millionaire that drove a Subaru. I think Block doesn't care about keeping sponsors as much as he cares about driving, plus he brings substantial financial backing with him.

Hopefully we'll see Subaru back in WRC within the next few years with Pastrana as one of their factory drivers. This would be a huge benefit to the series.

I don't follow the WRC that much, is there a reason why Subaru isn't in it right now?

^They dropped out for financial reasons. Worldwide WRC viewership has been declining for the last several years.
