Formula One teams challenge change of points system
LONDON (AP) — The Formula One Teams' Association is challenging the sport's decision to change the way the world title is decided.
FOTA says that FIA's ruling this week that the championship will go to the driver with the most race wins rather than the highest total points is invalid. The teams say the decision was made too late and they did not agree to it.
SYSTEM CHANGE: Formula One title to be decided by wins
The 2009 season starts March 29 with the Australian Grand Prix.
The teams say their proposal to award more points for victories would make the sport more attractive. They want to reopen talks with the ruling body over a compromise for next season.
